GREENING THE DESERT™ - CARBON CREDITS

Over the last 200 years, billions of tonnes of carbon (perhaps as much as 50 billion in Australia) have been lost as a result of forest clearing, fires and cultivation.

Large scale terrestrial sequestration projects could restore up to 25% of these carbon losses.

Terrestrial carbon offsets can provide environmental benefits from projects funded by carbon credits which are a tradable permit scheme.

One carbon credit delivers to the owner a right to emit one tonne of CO2 and is assigned a monetary value (which enables trading).

PundaZoie ™ bases the value for its carbon credits on the European Climate Exchange.

Personal carbon credits - with carbon credits one can reduce their personal impact on the greenhouse effect and lower their climate change impact. This is known as a “carbon footprint”.

A recognized example is the purchase of abatement offsets to compensate for greenhouse gas emitted by personal air travel. By annually purchasing carbon credits one can pay and provide for tree planting to offset their yearly carbon emissions from flying.

Calculate your own credits. See: www.climateclever.com.au.

Industry carbon credits - many parts of business operations and activities have a negative effect on the environment.

One can calculate their company's greenhouse gas emissions either by direct discharge or indirect release (such as electricity use) and purchase offsets to reduce their company's carbon footprint.

To do this, a company or business buys Greenhouse Friendly ™ accredited carbon credits from companies such as PundaZoie which plants trees and shrubs to sequester carbon dioxide from the atmosphere.

In the case of PundaZoie however, these plantings not only deal the issue of global warming but address the problems of drought-stress and salinity as well.

Where your money goes - the carbon credit money that you spend for carbon sequestration is allocated by PundaZoie to its Greening the Desert ™ Program for its fully identified and document-approved Greenhouse Friendly™ Abatement Provider project.

To qualify as Greenhouse Friendly™, PundaZoie is compelled to take all necessary steps to qualify every Forest Sink Project it undertakes with the Australian Greenhouse Office (AGO).

This includes a range of different requirements - all of which are detailed in the Planning Forests Sinks Projects blueprint - which can be downloaded from the AGO website:
